Koala AI and Ever Works meet in one lane — an AI that keeps writing the posts — and come at it from opposite ends. Koala is a hosted SEO growth platform for a site you already run: it analyses the pages currently ranking for a keyword, writes a long-form article against what it finds, and publishes it into WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Ghost or a custom webhook, with keyword, backlink and rank data, a Google Search Console and GA4 feedback loop, contextual internal linking and image generation around it. It never builds or maintains the site itself — that half is assumed to exist. Ever Works builds the site and its code: a Next.js site generated into three Git repositories you own, deployed to your own domain, re-run on a schedule and staffed by named Agents. Its blog kind is early, though — there is no dedicated post generator yet, so a Blog Work’s Posts tab runs on the shared items pipeline and long-form writing is delegated to Agent tasks while a post writer rolls out. Inside the content lane Koala is the deeper tool on SEO instrumentation; Ever Works is the one that also produces the site, owns the repository and runs the autonomous operation around it.
Koala assumes the site exists; its product is the content that goes into it. Ever Works starts from the other end. Give it a topic and it researches the domain with the search and extraction plugins you enable, generates the site from a published template into three repositories you own — data, markdown and website — deploys it to Vercel, Kubernetes or managed hosting, and puts it on your own domain. The honest caveat sits on the writing side: the blog kind is wired end to end — the chip, the persisted kind, the capability registry, a works.yml spec with a posting cadence, a topics prompt and posts-per-run, the schedule — but the generation pipeline behind it is the same items pipeline every Work gets, and its writer produces items, categories, tags, collections, references and comparisons. There is no dedicated blog-post generator yet, so long-form pieces are commissioned as Tasks for a Work-scoped Agent while a post writer rolls out. Koala writes the posts and cannot build the blog; Ever Works builds the blog and is still building the post writer.
Both products keep working after launch, which is rarer than it sounds. Koala batches and schedules articles with its content-calendar autopilot on the higher plans, and its Growth Agent reviews performance and recommends what to do next — it advises and analyses rather than executing the work. Ever Works re-runs its generation pipeline on seven cadences from hourly to monthly, retries a failed run, pauses a schedule after repeated failures and recovers stuck runs on its own, and what surrounds that autonomy is engineering: every Agent-executed Task can take its own branch and private checkout, quality gates run real build, test, lint and type-check commands and send red work back to the Agent instead of to you, and a configurable merge policy decides whether an Agent may land its own pull request. The gap runs the other way on measurement. Ever Works has no Search Console integration, no keyword or rank data and no per-post analytics; its metrics plugins read GA4, PostHog or Stripe into Goals, which is a number checked against a target, not a signal that picks the next topic. If ranking data driving the next article is the thing you are buying, Koala has it and Ever Works does not.
Koala is proprietary, cloud-only software with no self-hosting and no on-premise option. Its articles are portable — download them as HTML or Markdown, or auto-publish them into a CMS you already own — so the prose itself is not trapped; what stays behind if you leave is the accumulated strategy: the brand knowledge base, the Growth Agent’s per-brand memory and the internal-link graph. Ever Works creates three repositories in your own Git account for every Work, so the content, the generated code and even the Knowledge Base your Agents read are version-controlled by you. The runtime is open source under AGPLv3 with no paid feature tier, runs on Docker or Kubernetes, ships 100+ plugins, and uses the AI provider you choose across 11 supported providers — including local Ollama, LM Studio or vLLM — with spend caps enforced before every call at the Work, Mission, Idea, Agent and account level. That also changes the cost shape: Koala meters words and credits as two separate budgets and counts frontier models against the word allowance at two or three times the rate, while Ever Works is a platform you set budgets on and, self-hosted, pay your own model bill directly. One row Ever Works cannot claim on this page: the feeds, structured data, Markdown twins and per-bot AI-crawler policy its documentation describes in detail ship on the directory template, while a Blog Work is generated from the general web template, whose Markdown blog is not documented at that depth.
Koala’s scope is content and the SEO work immediately around it; it cannot touch your site’s code, design, taxonomy or deployment, and it is deliberately built that way. Ever Works organizes around a goal. A Mission proposes Ideas, accepted Ideas become Works, and named Agents with a scope, a budget and a schedule keep each one moving — a blog next to a directory, a marketing site or a landing page, with stores and whole companies planned. Every Work carries a typed, Git-backed Knowledge Base — brand, style, glossary, personas, SEO constraints and verbatim legal copy — injected into every relevant run and publishable once at the organization level, so editorial voice accumulates instead of being re-explained per article. Koala’s brand profile and knowledge base do the same job well inside its own platform; they are hosted, and there is no documented way to take them with you.

Choose Koala AI when you already have a site on WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Ghost or anything you can reach with a webhook, and what you need is SEO content plus the instrumentation around it: articles written against the pages currently ranking for a keyword, keyword, backlink and rank data to choose those keywords in the first place, Search Console and GA4 feeding an analyst that tells you what to write next, internal links and schema maintained across the corpus, and images generated with the post. It is the better pick if you will not migrate your site, if you want product roundups with live Amazon data or a service-page archetype as first-class presets, if a $9 entry plan and a card-free trial suit you better than standing up a platform, and if hosted, closed software is a trade you are happy to make — bearing in mind that words and credits are metered as two separate budgets and that frontier models count against the word allowance at two or three times the rate.
