Hosted website builder & small-business platform
Wix is a hosted builder and small-business platform with an in-canvas AI agent and, since 2026, agent teams of its own. Ever Works researches the topic, writes the content, generates the code from a template you own, and keeps the site improving on a schedule — content and code in your Git.
Wix is the volume leader in hosted website building: a drag-and-drop editor with 2,000+ templates, a business layer that covers stores, bookings, restaurants, events, CRM, email marketing and payments, and — since Harmony launched in January 2026 — an in-canvas AI agent, Aria, that generates and edits a site from plain language on every plan, Free included. Through 2026 it has also become an AI-agent platform in its own right: a remote MCP server that ships as a built-in Claude connector, a visitor-facing MCP endpoint on every site, open-spec Wix Skills, and Symphony, a standalone multi-agent system for small-business operations. Ever Works approaches the same business site from the other direction: it researches the subject, writes the content, generates the code from a template you own, deploys it, and keeps improving it on a schedule, with content and code in your Git and an AGPLv3 runtime you can self-host. Wix’s AI drafts, suggests and optimizes inside Wix’s own hosting, with an owner approval on every published item; Ever Works ships and maintains, and hands you the repositories. The trade is real: Wix wins on the visual editor, commerce and business tooling today; Ever Works wins on research, autonomy and ownership.
Wix’s AI Marketing Agent conducts keyword research, optimizes pages and plans blog posts, and every item is edited and approved by the owner before it publishes. Ever Works researches the subject itself — a 15-step pipeline discovers, extracts, validates, deduplicates and classifies real entries, each with a source URL — and writes the publishable content as the primary output, so a directory Work is populated on day one rather than handed to you as a template to fill. Blog, website and landing-page Works are wired end to end but still run on that same items pipeline while their dedicated writers roll out, so today the content lead is strongest for directories and content sites.
Wix moved firmly into scheduled agents in 2026: the Marketing Agent generates suggestions at a frequency you set, and Symphony’s agents run approved workflows behind a review layer. The difference is where the default sits. Ever Works re-runs its research and generation pipeline on seven cadences from hourly to monthly, with retries and auto-pause; Agents wake on their own cron heartbeats; Missions tick and can auto-build accepted Ideas into Works once the Work agent is switched on. Governance is there when you want it — quality gates, merge policy and a branch per Task — but work lands unless you gate it, rather than waiting for a click on each item.
A Wix site runs only on Wix’s servers: there is no HTML, CSS or JavaScript export of an Editor, Studio or Harmony site, an existing site’s template cannot be switched, and version history is Wix’s own backup feature. Ever Works creates three repositories per Work in your own Git (GitHub today) — data, markdown and website — so both the content and the code are version-controlled by you, and you can change a Work’s template after launch. The runtime itself is open source under AGPLv3 with no paid feature tier, runs on Docker or Kubernetes, deploys to managed hosting, Vercel or a cluster you control, and it ships a CLI and an MCP server that expose the API as tools for AI clients.
Wix organizes around one site and one business dashboard, and Symphony adds an agent team for the operations around it. Ever Works organizes around a goal: a Mission proposes Ideas, accepted Ideas become Works, and named Agents with a scope, a heartbeat and a budget keep each one moving — so one intent can grow into a portfolio of self-maintaining sites (and, on the roadmap, stores and whole companies), not a single site you keep editing.

Choose Wix when you want one vendor to host, secure and run a complete small-business site — store, bookings, restaurant ordering, events, CRM, email marketing, payments and a phone-answering agent included, with Wix’s AI agents drawing on plan AI credits and showing as paused once those credits run out — and you are happy to own the content work yourself, with AI drafting and keyword research to help and an approval on every item. It is also the better pick when you need a visual drag-and-drop editor with a live preview, 2,000+ industry templates, an agency workflow through Wix Studio, in-product domains and business email, or a visitor-facing MCP endpoint on the site today, and you do not need to take the site’s code with you.
