Hosted newsletter & website platform
Beehiiv is a hosted, newsletter-first publishing platform with an AI website builder, podcasts, community and a deep monetization stack. Ever Works researches the topic, generates the site from a template you own, and keeps it improving on a schedule — content and code in your Git.
Beehiiv is the platform a writer picks when the newsletter is the business: you write and send from one dashboard, and the same subscription covers a website with an AI builder, podcast hosting, community spaces and a monetization stack — an ad network, sponsorships, paid subscriptions with no platform cut on Scale and above, metered paywalls and digital products — all reading one subscriber record. Its AI assists inside that dashboard: a writing assistant metered by daily credits, a prompt-to-site builder with click-an-element editing, and Copilot, which analyzes your audience, builds segments and assembles automations. Nothing in it researches a topic, writes the post and publishes it on a cadence, and there is no repository, no self-hosting and no code to take with you. Ever Works starts from the other end: it researches the subject, generates the site from a Next.js or Astro template into three Git repositories you own, deploys it, and re-runs that pipeline on a schedule with named Agents doing the follow-up work — while being honest that its blog kind is still early and long-form writing is delegated to Agent tasks today. Beehiiv wins on email, audience and revenue; Ever Works wins on research, autonomy and ownership.
Beehiiv’s AI helps while you work: the writing assistant drafts inside the editor on a daily credit allowance, the website builder generates layout and copy from a prompt, and Copilot reads your subscriber data to build segments and automations. The writing is still yours, and nothing revisits a post after it ships. Ever Works runs a research pipeline as the build itself — it analyzes the domain, searches the web, extracts and deduplicates real entries, validates their sources and organizes them into categories and tags — with the brand, style and persona documents from the Work’s Knowledge Base injected into every run. Two honest caveats: that pipeline is item-shaped, so today it is strongest for directories and content sites, and a Blog Work’s Posts tab is fed by the same pipeline while a dedicated long-form post writer rolls out; long-form pieces are commissioned as Tasks for a Work-scoped Agent rather than produced by a generator.
Beehiiv’s automations are audience workflows — Automations v4 from the Scale plan, click-triggered automations and RSS-to-send on Max, multi-step launch automations assembled by Copilot — and every content change is a person in the editor. Ever Works re-runs its generation pipeline on seven cadences from hourly to monthly, retries a failed run after fifteen minutes, pauses the schedule after repeated failures, and marks runs stuck for more than an hour as failed so the retry and auto-pause logic takes over. Named Agents wake on their own heartbeats, are asked what the single most useful next action is, and take it: review the newest posts, propose the next three, open a Task. Quality gates, merge policy and a branch per Task keep that autonomy reviewable. It is a content refresh, not a publishing calendar — but it runs whether or not you log in.
A Beehiiv site lives inside Beehiiv: there is no generated repository, no documented code export and no self-hosting. Posts and subscriber lists export cleanly, while paid subscribers are a real switching cost because the connected Stripe account cannot simply be pointed at another platform. Ever Works creates three repositories in your GitHub account for every Work — data, markdown and website — so both the content and the generated Next.js or Astro code are version-controlled by you, and even your Agents’ instruction files live in the Work’s repository. The runtime is open source under AGPLv3 with no paid feature tier, runs on Docker or Kubernetes, deploys to Vercel, a cluster you control or managed hosting, uses the model provider you choose (including local Ollama) instead of vendor credits, and is drivable from outside the dashboard too — a chat rail on every dashboard page, a hosted or self-hosted MCP server exposing a curated set of API verbs plus the Knowledge Base namespace, and a CLI covering auth, Works, plugins and the Knowledge Base. What it does not have is Beehiiv’s email product: the generated directory template captures subscribers through Resend or Novu, but there is no campaign composer, no audience CRM and no paywall.
Beehiiv organizes around a publication and its audience. Ever Works organizes around a goal: a Mission proposes Ideas, accepted Ideas become Works, and Agents with a scope, a budget and a heartbeat keep each one moving, with spend caps enforced before every AI call. A blog can be one Work inside a larger operation — next to a directory, a marketing site or a landing page — rather than the whole business, and one intent can grow into a portfolio of self-maintaining sites (and, on the roadmap, stores and whole companies).

Choose Beehiiv when the newsletter is the product and the audience is the asset: you want to write, send and monetize from one dashboard — unlimited sends, a website and podcast hosting at 0% revenue share from the free plan, then paid subscriptions with no platform cut, the ad network, a metered paywall and community spaces on Scale and above, and a sponsorship storefront and group subscriptions on Max — with deliverability at scale, a subscriber CRM with segments and automations, growth loops like recommendations and referrals, importers from the platform you are leaving, and a generous free tier while the list is small. It is also the better pick if you never want to touch a repository, a deploy target or a model API key, and you are happy to do the writing yourself with an AI assistant, a visual editor with live preview and Copilot handling the dashboard.
